With these newfound ideas, and an organizational commitment to quality, the importance of management development training gained momentum. ![]() The other factor was the introduction of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the 1920s. One was the need to train fresh graduates or other new entrants to management, who at that stage of their careers need to know just about everything and have no resentment at being put in a classroom. Two factors led to the growth of management development training. The focus then was more about teaching workers to adhere a set of corporate rules or standards rather than providing helpful tools to improve performance for long-term gains. The idea of management training came more by chance than by any careful planning or design.
